Given that Quordle is like Wordle but a lot harder, there’s no shame if you’re searching for the daily Quordle answers for game #144. Or rather ‘answers’ plural, as Quordle has four solutions to find each day.
If you’ve not played it yet, you should — it offers four times the fun of the original viral word game. But it’s arguably more than four times as difficult, as you only have nine guesses to find the quartet of words. (Some days Wordle is harder of course — although today’s Wordle answer is again not too bad.)
Like Wordle, it also resets each day, so if you miss one game you’ll have no way of knowing what the previous daily Quordle answers were. Well, unless you bookmark this page, in which case you’ll be able to check today’s Quordle answers at your leisure, as I’ll be updating it each morning.
But be warned: spoilers lie ahead for game #144, so only read on if you want to know today’s Quordle answers! And please don’t use this page to cheat and pretend to others that you got it right when you didn’t really. That would be a misuse of my hard work.
Today’s Quordle hints, game #144, Friday, June 17
Before I get on to today’s Quordle answers, I’ll give you a few hints to guide you in the right direction. I’ve got three starter clues for you, then one big hint at the end. And after that I’ll tell you the answers, promise.
So, here are your starter clues:
- Only four vowels are used*
- One of the answers contains a repeated letter
- Two answers contain two vowels
* By vowel I’m meaning A, E, I, O, U. There are other letters that are sometimes considered to be vowels, depending on how they are used.
The daily Quordle answers for game #144 are of fairly standard difficulty, but here’s another clue to give you an advantage with one of them anyway: One of today’s Quordle answers is a format for playing music, among other things.
Sill stuck? Then let’s move on to the answers.
Today’s Quordle answers, game #144, Friday, June 17
So, what are today’s Quordle answers for game #144?
I won’t make you wait any longer — here you go:
The daily Quordle answers for game #144 are a real mixed bag, with two more difficult words in terms of obscurity, and one that contains a fairly uncommon letter and uses another one in a fairly unusual place.
DOWDY is, on the face of it, the toughest based on the fact that it only ranks 26,757th in Word and Phrase Info (opens in new tab)‘s list of the most frequently used English words, although that’s only a little above STEIN at 24,398th. DOWDY also has a repeated D, which doesn’t help.
VINYL, meanwhile, starts with a V — and as I show in my analysis of every Wordle answer, most of which applies equally to Quordle, V begins fewer than 2% of games. What’s more, a Y in fourth place only occurs in three games overall, or 0.13% of Wordles!
My strategy involves playing three set words at the outset in order to eliminate or confirm as many common letters as possible. I always start by playing one of the best Wordle start words, in my case STARE, then follow that up with DOILY and PUNCH.
That usually gives me a good head start on the daily Quordle answers, and today was a fairly day on that front, with all five letters turning yellow or green for two puzzles, four for one other and three for the last one.
The first puzzle I attempted, in the bottom left, was very easy: with green ST and I, N and E to also include, STEIN was the only answer. It was good to solve what could have been a tough word so quickly.
I also had all five letters for the bottom right, but here I had two equally likely options PENAL or PANEL. The problem was that only the P and N were confirmed in place, and though realistically the L was going at the end, there was no way to know which order the A and E went in. Plus, neither of the two remaining words, at the top left and top right, contained either an E or A, so I wasn’t going to be able to use them to narrow it down.
I had to just suck it up and attempt a 50/50, then, so I went with PANEL and got lucky. Phew!
The top-left puzzle was a nice one: –N-L, with an I and Y to include somewhere. Y isn’t common outside of position #5, but it does feature between the N and L in VINYL, so I guessed that and got it correct.
That left the top right: DO–Y. I found a couple of options here: DOWDY, DOOZY, DOOMY, DOGGY and DODGY. I don’t know how many of these are actually valid Quordle answers, but I guessed that most were. So, what to do? A throwaway guess made sense, and I’d want it to include W, M, G ideally. However, I couldn’t find any words that used all three, so I played DOGMA; this would rule in or out DOGGY, DODGY and DOOMY.
With just the DO— at the start staying green, that left DOWDY or DOOZY — assuming I hadn’t missed a word. I went with DOWDY and again got lucky, and completed this daily Quordle with one guess remaining. Hopefully you solved it too.

What else should I know about Quordle?
Quordle is one of the many Wordle clones to have arrived in the wake of Wordle’s huge success. It’s essentially the same game, but you play four versions of it simultaneously and have nine attempts to guess all the answers.
The letters behave as they do in Wordle, turning green if they’re in the right place, yellow if they’re in the word but in the wrong location, and gray if they’re not included in the answer at all.
A nice extra is that though there’s only set puzzle per day, a practice mode is also included. And you might well need it, because it’s pretty difficult.
If Quordle is too tough for you, you might prefer something in our list of the best Wordle alternatives, but if you want an even more stressful test then we’d recommend either Squabble or Octordle.
We also like the new Heardle, which is like Wordle for pop music, plus the geography-based Wordle clone Worldle, the Star Wars-themed SWordle and the math-based Mathler, among others.
But the original is still the best, so don’t forget to also check our the best Wordle start words and to look at today’s Wordle answer if you won’t get a chance to play.
