Phone makers typically don’t make a lot of announcements in the last weeks of the year, but 2018 is clearly bucking the trend. The last but one week of the year not only had the numbers but also the quality.
Lenovo announced a trio of new phones, inluding its new Z5 Pro GT flagship – the first handset to come with a Snadragon 855 chipset and 12GB of RAM. Meanwhile Huawei unveiled a 48MP smartphone – the nova 4, which is also only the second handset to feature a punch hole in its display for the selfie camera. HTC had an announcement of its own too – the Desire 12s is a lower mid-ranger with interesting design and slightly underwhelming internals.
The week wasn’t quite so good for Gionee – the Chinese maker officially going bankrupt. The company used to be quite big in its day, also serving as ODM for the likes of Allview and BLU, but it’s days are now numbered.
In more expected developments the rumors about the phones we will be seeing in the early months of 2019 keep piling up – from Xiaomi to Nokia we had bits and pieces to add to a bunch of upcoming phones.
