On Tuesday, Verizon officially announced its partnership with Google to offer YouTube TV at a discount when bundled with Veizons other services. Verizon offers both in-home broadband internet with its Fios product as well as a nationwide wireless coverage. It also plans to offer its 5G Home broadband product as its availability grows with the rollout of 5G markets.
In todays release, Verizon promises to offer high-value YouTube TV promotions to customers across platforms, Verizon has yet to reveal any pricing information about the supposed promotions and bundle options since the announcement is solely focused on the partnership with Google and YouTube TV. Heather Rivera, YouTubes head of partnerships offered the following:
YouTube TV has become known for its best-in-class user experience that enhances the way users watch live TV today. With this partnership, were making it simple and seamless for Verizons customers to sign up to enjoy YouTube TV on-the-go on their mobile phones or tablets or at home on their big screen devices.
Interestingly, Verizon sells cable TV in select markets around the US. We wonder how YouTube TV would fit existing Verizon Fios TV customers or whether YouTube TV would be a way to fill the gaps where Verizon doesnt offer Fios TV. Whatever the case, this would certainly help Verizon compete against AT&T-owned streaming TV service DirecTV Now.
This partnership is also good news for YouTube TV customers that are not happy about the price increase to $50 per month with the addition of the Discovery family of TV channels. Perhaps bundling the service with Verizon would make the pill easier to swallow for those who really love YouTube TV.
