Gameloft has released a new version of Asphalt 9: Legends, which comes with a new event, a new game mode and four new cars.
The Bugatti Chiron Mega Event lets you compete in new events every day to unlock the car. The new Slipstream feature now lets you trail behind other cars to charge up your nitro bar but other cars can do the same for you if you are in the lead. The update also adds SIN R1 550, Genty Akylone, Maserati Alfieri and McLaren 570S Coupe to the roster of available cars.
These features are available on platforms. However, the game now runs at 60fps on the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. There is no setting to fiddle with; the game will always run at 60fps on these devices. Previously, the 60fps mode was exclusive only to the Windows 10 version of the game. It’s currently not available on Android.
When tested on the iPhone XR, the performance was excellent. The game already looks phenomenal and the 60fps frame rate makes it look even better. It also has gameplay implications, and the smoother frame rate makes the game more responsive, which is important since the game also features competitive online multiplayer. The 60fps frame rate actually gives you a gameplay advantage over players on other devices.
Compared to the Fortnite update we recently tested, Asphalt 9 has no undue heating issues and runs perfectly. The Fortnite update then really is an anomaly in the way it causes overheating of the phone when played in 60fps mode, causing the device to eventually throttle down and drop frames.
Hopefully, the trend of 60fps update continues and spreads to more games.
The Asphalt 9 update is now out on all platforms.
