Cisco says its new Silicon One will be the foundation of its routing portfolio from now on, offering performance availability up to 25 Tbps (Terabits per second). Silicon One was designed to be universally adaptable across service providers and vertical markets, and this ability to remove complexity is a key part of its groundbreaking nature. In fact, Cisco Chairman and CEO, Chuck Robbins, in his onstage presentation, said because technology will continue to be at the heart of everything going forward, companies have an obligation to do a better job of making technology simpler. It’ll need to be cheaper, too.
“For all of us who believe (in) the ability for technology to change the world for good, there are amazing things happening around the world,” Robbins said. “In order to achieve this and realize this vision, we do have to build an Internet for what’s next, and I think we know what has to happen. We have to have more capacity, we have to have more speed, (and) frankly, we have to lower the cost.”
