While most modern TVs tend to come with some form of on-board streaming service or smart TV platform, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you like it or that it’s any good. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to grab a different smart TV platform, like the Fire TV stick, and stick it onto your TV. Even better, you can grab one from Woot for the rock-bottom price of $9, and although it’s used, Woot is an Amazon brand, and therefore the Fire TV Stick is tested and verified by Amazon. So, even though there might be some wear and tear, and it might not come in its original box, it’s still 100% functional.
Why you should buy the Amazon Fire TV Stick
Of course, as the name suggests, the Amazon Fire TV Stick is Amazon’s own smart TV platform and is truly tiny, making it both easy to carry with you everywhere and easy to hide by plugging into your TV from the back. The Stick also comes with a remote, so you don’t have to use a smartphone, and it even has an included microphone inside it so you can control the whole thing with voice only. Also, it’s important to note that you do need to power this using a USB, and you don’t get access to 4k resolution, you’d need the Fire TV Stick 4K Max to do that, and that’s a bit more expensive.
As for the interface, it’s pretty straightforward and built around content curation, which is mostly targeted to Amazon’s own services; speaking of which, you will need an Amazon account to log in, so be prepared to set one up if you don’t have one. A big standout feature is an ability for the Fire Stick to pull directly from any live services you’ve subscribed to, such as Hulu + Live TV, making it easier to search for live content. Besides that, the performance is pretty smooth, and you get 8GB of storage, which is mostly for apps, and is mostly 5GBs since the Fire OS takes up a bit of that space as well.
All in all, the Amazon Fire TV Stick is a great option if you’re already integrated into the Amazon ecosystem and aren’t interested in going for something like the Roku Streaming Stick. Of course, the Roku stick is three times the price of this refurbished Fire TV Stick from Woot that’s going for $9, so it’s well worth picking up if you’re on a budget or if you’d like to cut out the middle-man, go straight for one of these great TV deals instead.
