New chips, new cams
Unlike the iPhone 14, Apple is bringing a new camera system and chipset to the iPhone 14 Pro Max with the Apple A16 Bionic and its new 48MP quad-camera layout.
The company is taking on Android phones with high megapixel camera counts, but its leaning on its A16 chip and photonic engine to make the difference. The main camera is its largest, at 48 megapixels, while the others remain at 12MP.
Apple says it’s the company’s most powerful camera system ever. It’ll have to be with these specs.
The iPhone 14 Pro comes with an Always-On-Display
Apple’s stolen a trick from Android with its new Always-on-Display feature. You’ll be able to see iOS 16’s live activities without even using your iPhone. All this is made capable by the iPhone’s display which goes as low as 1Hz. It’s also part of what helps make the iPhone 14 Pro’s and 14 Pro Max’s battery all day like the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.
Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro kills the notch
Following the iPhone 14, Apple’s introduced the new iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max with a new dynamic island design in place of the notch.
The dynamic island feature is one Apple is particularly proud of. Allowing the software and hardware to work seamlessly together. Things like live activities, notifications, and music controls, show up on the dynamic island.
Other than that, both iPhones comes with thinner bezels, and higher brightness peaks of up to 2000 nits powered by the Super Retina XDR display.
Apple’s iPhone 14 will set you back $800
Apple will be keeping the iPhone 14 priced the same as the iPhone 13. This means it’s an $800 starting price. The iPhone 14 Plus will see you pay $900, though trade-in deals can knock both those prices down a tad. Preorders open on September 9, with the iPhone 14 coming on September 16 while the 14 Plus drops later on October 7.
Apple kills the sim card
Apple is dropping sim trays from the iPhone 14 (in the U.S. at least). Instead, users will rely solely on esims. Previously, esims have been made optional. As with the headphone jack, Apple is making the corageous step to kill off this old technology.
That’s not all Apple’s taking the hatchet to. It;s bringing satellite telephony to the iPhone. Yup, your iPhone is now a satellite phone.
New cameras, old chips
Apple’s A15 chip makes a return this year as well but the company is throwing in a new camera system with a larger sensor and larger pixels. It’s still 12 megapixels, but that sensor will allow for more light capture in dim environments. The front camera also seesa new faster focus system to its 12MP true depth camera system.
Apple has announced the iPhone 14 line with a new Plus-model that brings the 6.7-inch form factor down to a cheaper price point. The 6.1 inch iPhone remains, and both bring OLED XDR displays, ceramic shield, aerospace grade aluminum, and class leading battery life together in one familiar design.
Apple has announced the second generation of the AirPods Pro , its most advanced Airpods yet powered by the new Apple H2 chip.
With the new chip Spatial Audio and transparency mode return, while Touch control is a new feature that makes navigation easier and faster. You’ll get much better battery, as well as an extra speaker on the bottom of the charging case.
The Watch Ultra is unlike the Apple Watch Series 8 or SE, it’s built for explorers in extreme conditions. Take the focus on something as simple as the compass app that no one ever thinks for, this is something Apple’s focused on unlike its typical health angle. GPS? Boring. Apple focuses on dual channels; L1 and L5 GPS and new algorithms to bring you better navigation capabilities. There’s a siren for if you get lost despite all that, and a second speaker to make that siren go up to 600 decibels and echo even louder. Oh, and that battery life? It’ll last for days. There’s even a new low power mode to extend that further.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg. The physical hardware is something different for Apple as well. It’s less fashion, more function. The Action button and digital crown come in here to give users more fine-tuned control, while cell service is made available to every Watch Ultra model.
The Apple Watch Series 8 pricing and availability
Alongside its new Apple Watch Series 8 extended battery life features, Apple is also bringing in four colors: midnight starlight, silver, and product red. The stainless steel model will come in silver, gold, and graphite finishes.
It’ll cost you $399 for GPS and $499 for cellular. It’ll be available September 16.
Seguing right off a touching show about how the Apple Watch helped save lives and relationships around the world, Apple has introduced the Apple Watch Series 8. Powered by watchOS 9, the company says its the ultimate device for a healthy life.
All the Apple Watch features you know and love are still here, with some new tricks. Leaning into current health concerns, Apple is focusing on securing pregnant people and women’s health with encryption to make sure data stays safe between the women ant their Apple Watch.
Apple’s also dug in its heels with improved car crash detection in this release.
Under 30 minutes to go before Far Out!
It’s almost time for Apple’s Far Out event!
Tim Cook Tweeted about the event earlier this morning, showcasing a photo of Apple Park and saying “Good morning! Looking forward to a stellar Apple event.”
Between iPhone 14, Apple Watch Series 8, and plenty more, “stellar” sounds like a good way to describe things.
