If you’re worried about the PS5’s (relatively) small 825GB stock hard drive, then the good news is Sony unlocked the console’s storage expansion slot earlier this year. You just need a compatible NVMe SSD with a heatsink, and you can easily boost your console storage by up to 4TB.
Right now, the WD_Black SN850 1TB SSD is $199 at Amazon. That’s a sizeable $80 off its base price of $279. Installation is a breeze, and I can personally confirm the drive offers excellent performance once slotted into the console. In fact, the picture above is an SN850 installed in my personal PS5.
With so many excellent PS5 games released this year, and plenty more to come in 2022, now is definitely a good time to upgrade your console’s storage options.

We’d have expected to hear something from GameStop at this point if the retailer was going to hold a PS5 restock today. If you’re out of the loop, GameStop is expected to hold a drop this week, but the odds of this happening are starting to fall slightly.
Don’t give up hope just yet. In the PS5 restock game, things often change rapidly, so there’s still a strong chance that the gaming specialty retailer will still hold a PS5 restock either today or tomorrow. We’ll keep monitoring the retailer and update you if the situation changes.

PS5 Digital Edition: $399 @ GameStop (check stock)
Today’s Sony Direct invite-only PS5 restock is confirmed to begin at 2 p.m. ET, and it appears that most of the email invitations have been delivered (so check your inbox). If you don’t have one, unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that you’ve not been selected for this drop.
To avoid further disappointment, ensure that you’re registered so the next time Sony Direct is sending out invitations you don’t miss out. It’s completely free to register and takes literally just a few seconds. All you need is an active PSN account, and you’re good to go. Remember, you need to be in it to win it!

Jumping back to the PS5 restock situation, we’re still waiting to see if GameStop confirms its rumored drop that is expected to occur today. If you missed what happened yesterday, GameStop tweeted a reminder that PowerUp Reward Pro members get exclusive early access to restocks.
Backstage passes are pretty cool. You know what else is cool? *Early Access* passes. Kind of like the ones PowerUp Rewards Pros get to online console and graphics cards drops. Sign-up for Pro or upgrade now: https://t.co/ky8KNwQtnh pic.twitter.com/4cHihSkZVgDecember 8, 2021
This is significant as previously whenever the retailer has posted something similar, a PS5 restock has followed the very next day. This means that a GameStop PS5 restock is extremely likely to take place in the next few hours, although it’s currently unconfirmed.
Don’t worry, with previous restocks GameStop has confirmed them around an hour before they begin. Usually, the retailer holds restocks around 11 a.m. ET, so we expect to hear news if this restock is actually going to happen in roughly two hours.
If this GameStop PS5 restock does happen, it will be exclusively for PowerUp Reward Pro members (so get signed up ahead of time) and the console is almost guaranteed to be only available in bundles.
PowerUp Reward Pro membership: from $15 @ GameStop
I’m going to share one more deal before returning to the world of restocks. Right now, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is $16 at Walmart. That’s a sizeable $43 of its original launch price of $59.
This deal is technically on the PS4 version of the game, but when you insert the disc into a PS5 console you’ll get a free upgrade to the native next-gen version. You can also spend an extra $20 to further upgrade to The Anniversary Edition, which adds new quests, weapons and armor to the game from The Creation Club (Essentially fan-made content that has been approved by developer Bethesda).
Winter is the perfect time to return to the frost-covered land of Skyrim, or venture to this beloved fantasy location for the first time. I’ve personally begun replaying the game over the last week and I’m pleasantly surprised with just how well it’s held up over the last decade. Sometimes you just can’t beat the classics.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition: was $59 now $16 @ Walmart
Here’s another excellent PS5 deal that is ideal for gamers who have already secured a next-gen console, or those looking to buy some PS5 games while continuing to hunt restocks. Right now, Best Buy is offering up to $20 off select PS5 games.
Sometimes with deals of this nature, the heavy-hitting games receive only a marginal discount, and it’s the less desirable titles that get the biggest saving, but that’s not the case here. Several of the best PS5 games have been heavily reduced in this sale.
Our favorite picks include Returnal for $49, The Last of Us Part II for $19, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure for $29. You can also score Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut for $49 and Death Stranding Director’s Cut for $39. This deal is the perfect time to start or bulk out your PS5 game library. Make sure to check out the full selection of games on offer below.
PS5 games: up to $20 off @ Best Buy
While we wait for Sony Direct’s second PS5 restock of the week this afternoon (and keep our fingers crossed for confirmation of a GameStop drop), let’s look at an excellent PS5 deal that you can score right now.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is up for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021 (which broadcast tonight!) and here at Tom’s Guide we also rate it extremely highly. In fact, since release, its sat at the summit of our best PS5 games ranking. That’s some seriously high praise.
Right now, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is $49 at Amazon. That’s $20 off its regular price of $59. We definitely recommend taking advantage of this deal for either yourself or a loved one.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: was $69 now $49 @ Amazon
Good Morning! Welcome (back) to Tom’s Guide PS5 restock live blog. Throughout the day we’ll bring you the latest restock updates across every major retailer. The good news is that a drop has already been confirmed for today, and a second looks extremely likely as well.
Sony Direct will be holding its second invite-only restock of the week at 2 p.m. ET. Ahead of this drop, you can still register to potentially score an invitation. Note, registering doesn’t guarantee that you’ll receive an invite, but it’s a great way to get your e-mail on Sony’s radar.
We are also expecting to see a PS5 restock at GameStop today. Yesterday the retailer tweeted a reminder that PowerUp Reward Pro members get early access to console drops. A post of this nature has traditionally been followed by a drop the very next day. Based on past restocks, we’d expect this drop to take place at around 11 a.m. ET.
If a GameStop restock does occur today, you will need to be PowerUp Reward Pro member in order to participate, so get signed up using the link below. Furthermore, it’s a near certainty that the retailer won’t be selling the console standalone. GameStop favors selling its allocation of PS5s in bundles including everything from additional games to a PlayStation Plus membership.

PowerUp Reward Pro membership: from $15 @ GameStop
Just a reminder that a GameStop PS5 restock is likely to occur this week. In fact, it could happen as soon as Thursday. (We’ve noticed that GameStop tends to restock the day after it tweets about a potential restock). The restock will be for GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards Pro members only. (Membership costs $14.99/year).
Keep in mind that being a member doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a console, but it will certainly increase your chances. Also, remember that GameStop typically sells bundles only and not standalone consoles.
GameStop PowerUp Rewards Pro: $14.99/year @ GameStop
If you’ve somehow missed out on The Last of Us train ride, you can now see what the fuss is about by getting the original game at a discount. The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 is normally $19 but is on sale today for $9. The game takes place several years after a viral infection turned a large portion of humanity into rampaging monsters. Those who remain must not only contend with the zombie-like horrors, but with other humans who are also trying to survive.
The Last of Us Remastered: was $19 now $9
PS5 SOLD OUT AT WALMART! Walmart’s latest PS5 restock is now over. The retailers entire stock of the Disc and Digital Edition console has been sold, but don’t get too dispirited if you missed out. There are more restocks coming this week.
Both Sony Direct and GameStop will be holding restocks tomorrow (the former is confirmed, and the latter is extremely likely). Scroll down below for all the information you need, and make sure to bookmark this live blog as we’ll bring you the latest updates on these drops as well as any other restocks that occur in the run up to the holidays.
PS5 STILL IN STOCK AT WALMART! The Walmart PS5 restock doesn’t appear to be quite finished yet. The virtual queue remains open, and we’re still seeing reports of customers getting to the front and being able to check out. At this point Walmart’s inventory of the console will likely be getting extremely limited, so get over there right now. Remember you must be a paid Walmart Plus member to buy a console in this restock.
PS5: $499 @ Walmart
PS5 Digital: $399 @ Walmart
PS5 IN STOCK AT WALMART! Today’s PS5 restock at Walmart has begun. The virtual queue is open and Walmart Plus members are being offered the chance to purchase the console right now. If you’re still trying to secure a machine get over there as soon as possible before the drop is sold out. Remember you must be a paid Walmart Plus member to buy a console in this restock.
PS5: $499 @ Walmart

We’re about 30 minutes from the start of today’s Walmart PS5 restock. If you haven’t already now is the time to get signed up for Walmart Plus, as you’ll need a paid membership in order to participate in this restock.
We don’t have any idea how many units will be available in this Walmart PS5 restock, but the opportunities to score a next-gen console before the holidays are rapidly dwindling now so make sure to take full advantage of this chance.

The good news isn’t slowing down this week, GameStop has just all but confirmed it will be holding a PS5 restock tomorrow. The gaming specialty retailer just posted on social media reminding customers that PowerUp Reward Pro members get early access to online console drops.
Why is this significant you may ask? Because every single time GameStop has posted a not-so-cryptic Tweet like this in the past the retailer has held a console restock the very next day. This social post is practically a guarantee that GameStop will be holding a PS5 restock on Thursday, December 9.
Remember, you will need to be a PowerUp Reward Pro member in order to participate and it’s highly unlikely the retailer will be selling the console standalone, GameStop always opts to exclusively sell bundles We’ll update once we have more concrete information, but the above social media post is almost as good as full confirmation.
PowerUp Reward Pro membership: from $15 @ GameStop
Today’s Walmart PS5 restock is just a few hours away (at 12 p.m. ET to be exact), so now is a great time to get signed up for Walmart Plus. Walmart regularly gates restocks begin its premium subscription service, and that’s the case with this latest drop.
Walmart Plus costs $98 annually or $12.95 a month (with the option to cancel anytime) and gives you unlimited free delivery, faster in-store shopping via Scan & Go, fuel and medication discounts and access to exclusive next-gen console restocks.
It’s very important to note that Walmart Plus accounts using the free 15-day trial offer will not get access to PS5 restocks. You must have a paid Walmart Plus account to partake in today’s restock.
There’s no denying that retailers putting restocks behind a paywall is a little frustrating, but if paying $13 manages to secure you a PS5 in this drop, then it’s money well spent. We recommend getting signed up now so your account upgrade has definitely gone through before the restock kicks off.
Walmart Plus: $12.95/month @ Walmart
While we wait for the Walmart PS5 restock at 12 p.m. ET, let’s take a quick look at a fantastic PS5 deal that is perfect for the festive season. The holidays are all about spending time with loved ones after all, and why not spend that time mowing down hordes of undead zombies in Back 4 Blood?
This spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead is a bloody good co-op experience, and right now Back 4 Blood is $37 at Amazon. That’s a $22 saving or you can get an even bigger discount on the Back 4 Blood Ultimate Edition for $69 at Amazon. That’s $30 off the complete edition of the game which includes the full base experience as well as the annual pass and a load of extra digital goodies.
In our Back 4 Blood review we said: “Back 4 Blood fulfills its primary mission of delivering a thrilling co-op experience. Left 4 Dead veterans and newcomers alike will find a lot to like in Back 4 Blood.”

Back 4 Blood Ultimate Edition: was $99 now $69 @ Amazon
If you missed yesterday’s Sony Direct restock, you won’t have to wait long for your next chance to score a console at the retailer. It’s already been confirmed that the official Sony retailer will be holding its second restock of the week on Thursday, December 9 at 2 p.m. ET. As per usual with Sony Direct, this will be an invite-only restock (but could be followed by an open drop at around 7 p.m. ET).

You might be too late to get invited for Thursday’s restock at this point, but you’ll get your name in the hate for the next drawing. It’s completely free to register and takes literally just a few seconds.

Good Morning! Welcome to Tom’s Guide PS5 restock live blog. Today (December 8) will offer a fresh opportunity to score Sony’s in-demand next-gen system as Walmart has confirmed it’ll be holding a PS5 restock at 12 p.m. ET.
This drop will be exclusively for Walmart Plus members. Walmart’s premium subscription service costs $12.95 and while we aren’t thrilled to see another paywalled stock drop at the retailer, a month of Plus membership could be a small price to pay if you manage to score in today’s drop.
It’s worth noting that you cannot get access to this PS5 restock if you’re using a free trial account, you’ll need a paid Walmart Plus subscription in order to secure a console. So you best get signed up now ahead of the drop!
Walmart Plus: $12.95/month @ Walmart
As of 5:35 p.m. ET, it appears there will be no extra PS5 restock for the general public. Sony’s invite-only restock is done and there are no additional consoles available. But as we’ve stated before, Walmart will have stock for Walmart Plus members on Wednesday. Plus, you can still register for Sony’s next invite-only restock via the link below.
PS5 restock: register for PS5 invites @ Sony Direct
It’s now been over an hour since Sony started its invite-only restock. So far, there are no signs of another restock today, but we’ll remain vigilant through the next few hours. Otherwise, your next best bet will be the Walmart PS5 restock planned for Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday’s drop will be for Walmart Plus members only. (You can sign up at Walmart via this link).
Sony’s console drop will continue for the next hour or so. In the meantime, I noticed there’s a solid video game sale happening today at Best Buy. The sale takes up to $25 off a wide range of titles including some must-have games like Returnal, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel’s Avengers. It’s very similar to the Black Friday prices we saw just last month, so if you missed that sale — now is still a great time to stock up on new titles. After discount, prices start from $14.99.
PS5 video game sale: up to $25 off @ Best Buy
PS5 consoles are now live for those who received an invite from Sony. (Remember, you can still register for future console drops, although it’s not guaranteed you’ll receive an invite). Sony’s invite-only restocks are sometimes followed by a restock that’s open to the general public. The public restock usually happens around 5 p.m. ET. Should Sony open a virtual queue for the general public, we’ll be the first to notify you. (But don’t get your hopes up too high because we haven’t seen this happen for quite some time). Either way — we’ll post again to let you know when the restock is over.
PS5: for $499 @ Sony Direct
PS5 Digital: for $399 @ Sony Direct
Today’s Sony Direct invite-only PS5 restock is less than an hour away. If you’re currently without an invitation then, unfortunately, it’s highly likely that you haven’t been selected for this drop.
To avoid further disappointment, ensure that you’re registered so the next time Sony Direct is sending out invitations your name is in the hat. It’s completely free to register and takes literally just a few seconds. All you need is an active PSN account, and you’re good to go. Do it now!

The next PS5 restock has been confirmed. Sony Direct sat out both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but the retailer’s unusually lengthy PS5 restock drought is about to end as Sony Direct will be holding a PS5 restock at 2 p.m. ET today (December 7).
Once the restock has begun you will be able to join the virtual queue to get the PS5 for $499 via this link or the PS5 Digital for $399 via this link. This is an invite-only drop so you will need an invitation (delivered via email). If you’d not signed up to receive them, get registered now to be ready for future drops.
Previous Sony Direct invite-only restocks have been followed by an open drop, usually at around 7 p.m. ET, but that’s not guaranteed today. Some past Sony Direct PS5 restocks have been exclusively for invitation holders only. We’ll update once we know more.
