IoT connectivity provider Sigfox has penned a letter calling for the industry to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a technology company, we strongly believe IoT can do a lot to help. Today, we are reaching out to all the members of the IoT ecosystem to ask them to join forces to design and implement solutions that can help save lives,” the company stated.
Some of the examples provided by Sigfox of how the IoT is already helping to fight the pandemic includes tracking and monitoring solutions.
“Many companies and individuals have launched initiatives to win the war against COVID-19 in the US,” Sigfox said.
Among the current uses of IoT for tackling the crisis includes sensors for tracking protective equipment, identifying the availability of oxygen tanks to help with the respiratory issues caused by the virus, and to alert care home staff about the irregular movements of elderly patients.
For its part, Sigfox will waive all connectivity fees for IoT projects helping to tackle COVID-19 until at least July 31st 2020.
The IoT is quickly proving its effectiveness in helping to tackle this unprecedented pandemic. Just yesterday, IoT News reported on connected driverless shuttles which have been adapted to safely transport COVID-19 tests and minimise potential contaminations.
As of writing, COVID-19 has resulted in 83,471 known deaths. Over the past 24 hours, both the US and the UK have recorded their highest daily increase with 806 and 936 respectively.
