SanDisks 1TB microSD card, the first in the world, is now available. You can find on SanDisks site, Amazon and B&H. This marvel of electronics will set you back $450. Its £454 on Amazon UK and 523 on Amazon Germany.
For comparison, the PNY 512GB microSD (one of the first) launched at $350 in mid-2018 and currently goes for just north of $100. So, the price of the 1TB monster card will come down in the coming months, but smaller capacity cards will get even cheaper.
The SanDisk Extreme 1TB card is rated UHS-I U3 and V30, meaning it can handle 4K video recording and transfer speeds of up to 90MB/s for sequential reads and 60MB/s for writes. For use in apps, the card bears the A2 rating (guaranteed 4,000 IOPS random reads and 2,000 IOPS writes).
If you need more speed, SanDisks German site lists the Extreme Pro 1TB microSD card that goes up to 170MB/s read and 90MB/s write sequentially. It also has the U3, V30 and A2 ratings. This one isnt available yet, though.
Both cards are durable with temperature, water, shock and x-ray proofing.
By the way, all phones that support 512GB microSD cards should support this 1TB card as well (it’s the same XC standard).
This launch comes just months after the first 1TB SD card hit stores. It currently costs $400, but keep in mind that the larger SD form factor makes it easier to reach the larger capacities.
